What to Bring & Expect on Your Florida Fishing Charter

Getting ready for your Cedar Key fishing charter? Whether it’s your first trip or your fifth, a little preparation goes a long way. Captain Travis Blucher provides everything you need for a successful day on the water, but knowing what to wear, pack, and expect will help make your Florida fishing experience even better.

This guide covers what to bring, what’s provided, and a few expert tips so you’re fully prepared for your inshore or nearshore fishing trip.

What’s Included in Your Fishing Charter

When you book a fishing charter with Capt. Travis, I provide all the essentials:

  • Fishing licenses for everyone on board (up to 4 anglers)
  • Top-quality rods, reels, bait, and tackle
  • Fly fishing gear (upon request)
  • Cooler with ice
  • Fish cleaning and filleting (if keeping your catch)
  • A friendly fishing guide with a lot of local knowledge

You don’t need any experience, just show up ready to fish!

What to Bring on Your Fishing Trip

Use this checklist to make sure you have what you need for a smooth day on the water:

  • Sunscreen (reef-safe, non-spray)
  • Polarized sunglasses (for spotting fish + reducing glare)
  • Hat or sun buff
  • Light, breathable clothing (long sleeves recommended)
  • Snacks or lunch (especially for longer trips)
  • Drinks
  • Camera or phone for photos
  • Small cooler to take home fillets (if you plan to keep fish)

Footwear tip: Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes.

What You Might See on the Water

What You Might See on the Water

Your fishing charter is more than just casting a line. On most trips, we encounter:

  • Dolphins
  • Manatees
  • Osprey, herons, and other shorebirds
  • Sea turtles
  • Sharks (especially in summer)
  • Historic island views like the Cedar Keys lighthouse and old pencil factory

Every trip is a little different, which is what makes fishing Florida’s Big Bend so special.

Bringing Kids or First-Time Anglers? No Problem.

Fishing with kids or first-timers? I make sure all my trips are family-friendly, beginner-friendly, and laid-back. Just let me know the experience level of your group when booking.

I’ll tailor the charter to match your goals, whether it’s catching your first Redfish, learning to cast a fly rod, or just relaxing on the Gulf with family.

Quick Tips Before You Go

  • Arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can leave on time
  • Apply sunscreen before boarding to avoid slippery decks
  • Don’t worry about tide timing, I plan the trip around optimal conditions
  • Feel free to ask questions, I love teaching people about fishing, the fishery, and local wildlife

Still Have Questions? Let’s Talk

I want you to feel excited and comfortable before we hit the water. If you’re unsure about what to bring, weather conditions, or what kind of fishing we’ll do, just ask. I’m always happy to help.
